A prayer countdown on your Lock Screen tells you at a glance which prayer is next and how long is left. Here's how to set it up on iPhone, with adhan notifications so you don't miss a prayer.
Step 1: Set your location and calculation method
- Install Ayah Widget and open it.
- In the prayer settings, choose your city. More than 60 cities are included.
- Choose the calculation method your local mosque follows. Fajr and Isha times can differ by several minutes between methods.
Step 2: Turn on prayer notifications
- In the app, turn on prayer notifications.
- When iOS asks for permission, tap Allow.
- Pick one of the five adhan recordings.
If you tapped "Don't Allow" earlier, go to Settings, Notifications, Ayah Widget and turn on Allow Notifications.
Step 3: Add the prayer countdown to your Lock Screen
- Touch and hold the Lock Screen until Customize appears, then tap it.
- Tap Lock Screen, then the widget area below the time.
- Choose Ayah Widget and tap the prayer countdown widget.
- Tap Done.
You can place the prayer countdown and the daily verse widget side by side.
Tips
- Travelling? Change your city in the app so times stay correct.
- Times look a few minutes off? Compare with your mosque's timetable and switch calculation method.
- In Ramadan, the countdown to Maghrib doubles as your iftar countdown. See our Ramadan 2027 countdown.
